A Hidden Gem at Disney is Hilton Head Island Resort

However, far removed from theme parks and cruise ships, very few people are aware of: Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.

Located in the mid-eastern section of Hilton Head Island, this small 15-acre resort holds some of the most relaxing and hospitable vacations you can imagine! With just 123 rooms and a near equivalent amount of year round employees, you are immersed in true Southern Hospitality with a heavy concentration of relaxation, golfing, seafood, boating, walking trails, beaches and good old fashioned family fun.

The well-appointed villas range from single room studios for up to four people to beautiful three bedroom Grand Villas which accommodate up to 12! All villas offer a roomy porch to enjoy the beautiful Spanish Moss encased trees, ample wildlife and sunsets. During your visit, you can even enjoy meals on the porch thanks to the fully equipped kitchen in most villas (consult your Dream Designer for details).

The décor is very soothing with soft greens and beiges. The front living area offers vintage family pictures lending a family-cabin feel to your accommodations. All beds and convertible sofas offer memory foam and luxurious linens. The addition of a washer and dryer in most villas makes lighter packing a breeze without the cumbersome burden of sitting in a laundry mat, wasting valuable vacation time.

Fishing equipment and bike rentals of all sizes are available for rental or you may bring your own to enjoy the many paths throughout the resort. The fishing pier located on the resort is beautifully maintained with a picnic table for those who prefer to enjoy the scenery or take pictures. At times you’ll even wonder if it’s mere coincidence or if those birds are actually posing for the camera!

Beach Bound? Cycle, walk or enjoy the short ride over on the complimentary shuttle bus Disney provides to the fantastic, private, Disney Beach House. The driver is always full of Island suggestions as you will find with every Cast Member you encounter.

Once you arrive at Disney’s Beach House, enjoy the pool (complete with volley ball net), foosball, pool table and other activities. The yesteryear Coast Guard themed room allows a chance to cool off on the hottest of days while enjoying some vintage photos of this branch of the military.

Signal’s, conveniently located at the Beach House, offers tasty salads and sandwiches to ease mid-day hunger pains. A short walk over the dune and you have the option of the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. While Disney does not rent beach chairs, there are local companies readily available to assist you. Seasonal full service dining is also available inside the resort. There is also a marina within walking distance of the resort lined with a multitude of restaurants, galleries and an array of shops. Your Dream Designer can also offer some wonderful recommendations if you don’t mind a short drive into town.

There are many complimentary daily activities scheduled throughout the resort. Nature walks with certified Naturalists will teach both young and young at heart about local fauna and sea life. Throughout the day, visit Big Murggie’s Den and enjoy a multitude of camp-style crafts, shoot a game of pool and don’t miss the amazing folklore stories of the Low Country as told by local professional story tellers and folk musicians. These activities offer great entertainment, laughs and even knowledge of local culture.

Night Under the Stars allows families to enjoy Disney movies in the outside theater several nights per week, Campfires complete with S’mores, crabbing, “Kids Night Out”, swimming (two pools), shuffleboard, corn hole and many other activities are available throughout the day to enjoy. You may even have the chance to meet Disney’s one and only non-animated mascot, Shadow the golden retriever.

A favorite experience for extreme relaxation while visiting Hilton Head Island is a leisurely stroll to the big tree at the end of the resort, near the kayak launch. This particular tree sits by the marina entry way. The two Adirondack chairs offer comfortable seating to sit and enjoy a glass of tea and enjoy all of the beauty of the marsh land.
