Disney Dining Plan

There’s so much more to a Walt Disney World® vacation than just theme parks and resorts.  One of the highlights of any trip to Disney is the “experience” of Disney dining.  Top chefs create magical meals to tempt any palate, and the Disney Imagineers create experiences for any taste.  Whether you want to meet the many characters, enjoy a quiet peaceful dinner, sit in a convertible in a drive-in movie theater, hang with your “relatives” in a 1950’s Formica-filled kitchen, or have your own personal Japanese chef prepare your evening’s pleasure, these and many other experiences await you as part of the dining opportunities.

To make it easier on the planning, budget, and comfort of guests staying at any of the Walt Disney World® resorts, Disney has created the Disney Dining Plan.  This is a convenient way to pre-pay for your dining experiences, and in most cases, at a discounted rate.  With several different versions of the plan available, the general concept is as follows:  for each night’s stay at a Walt Disney World® Resort, each guest ages 3 and over will receive a certain amount of credits toward meals and snacks during their stay, depending on the plan they choose.

Components of the Plans

The best place to start is to understand what is included in each plan.  All of the plans contain any of these 3 components:

Table Service Meals – These are restaurants where you are seated by a host or hostess, served by a waiter/waitress, and either order from a menu or have access to a full buffet.  You also pay the server at the end of the meal.  These are the restaurants that either are considered fine dining, or “themed” (character meals, unique surroundings, activities for kids, etc).  It is generally recommended that you make advance dining reservations for these locations.  Many are so popular that they sell out 180 days in advance. Your Disney Vacation Planner from My Mickey Vacation Travel will not only make suggestions for your dining experiences, but also make your reservations for you.

Counter Service Meals – Also known as Quick Service, these are locations where you place your order with a cashier, and then pick up your food on a tray at the counter.  You will also be responsible for clearing your own table.  There is no waiter or waitress service, and no reservations are required.  However, your Disney Vacation Planner with My Mickey Vacation Travel will suggest the best of these locations in your plan documents.

Snacks – These are quick bites that fill the gaps between meals.  There are literally hundreds of snack options, ranging from a bottle of water (which we NEVER recommend using a snack credit for) up to and including homemade chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches (mmmmmm).  Notated by a little purple and white symbol on the menu boards, some snack items include cupcakes, muffins, cookies, pretzels, popcorn, bakery items, Dole Whips, and much much more.  Your Disney Vacation Planner will give you a list of the best options for your snack credits.

Notes:

The total number of meals/snacks available during a guest’s stay are determined through the use of credits.  Example:  4 guests x 5 nights stay on the Standard Dining Plan would equal 20 table service credits, 20 quick service credits, and 20 snack credits.

Credits can be used in any combination or at any time during the stay.  Example:  A guest can utilize 7 snack credits on their first day.  This will leave 13 credits for the balance of their trip.  2nd example: The guests did not have any reservations for their first day, so they used quick service for both lunch and dinner on the first day.  This used 8 credits (4 guests x 2 meals each), leaving 12 for the balance of their stay.

1 table service credit can be used toward Character Meal Experiences, with the exception of Cinderella’s Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom, Artist Pointe at Wilderness Lodge, and Akershus at Epcot, which uses 2 credits per person.

2 table service credits are used when dining at a Signature Dining experience, any of the the dinner shows, for one room service meal, or for a 1-pizza 2-person single-serving non-alcoholic beverage and 2 dessert pizza delivery.
