Walt Disney World

Favorite Classic Disney Attractions by Our Dream Designers

The clock strikes 9 and the park is officially open to guests. Everyone races to the newest and biggest attractions to fly on the backs of banshees, zip through Andy’s backyard or fly the biggest hunk of junk in the galaxy. You and your family decide to take in Main Street USA, take in views of the castle and enjoy the magic. Soon you find yourself in Fantasyland soaring on the back on an elephant. Being a Disney fan, you know there is more to the parks than just the new attractions. A ride on classic Disney attractions is more your style. We asked our Dream Designers what their favorite classic attraction is at the theme parks. Here are some of their favorites.

Shellie Burton – Prince Charming Regal Carrousel – Magic Kingdom

“A “must do” attraction for our family in the Magic Kingdom is the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel.  This beautiful carrousel is a timeless attraction that has been inside the park since it opened in 1971, and is a ride for all ages!  Our family enjoys the hand painted scenes from the movie Cinderella, the classic Disney music, and the gorgeous hand painted horses. This carrousel is one of the few that has the horses that can hold two people, giving my husband and I the opportunity to enjoy the ride first hand with our children.  One of our families favorite things about this attraction is finding Cinderella’s horse each time we ride. On your next visit, see if you can find it (hint: it is the horse with the golden bow on his tail)!”

Terri Davies – Peter Pan’s Flight – Magic Kingdom

Peter Pan’s Flight is a family favorite for us. This is one of two rides I remember riding as a child and the very first ride we took our kids on for their first Walt Disney World trip. As we walked down Main Street USA on that first trip, my then three year old was having a pretty big melt down but as soon as we got to Peter Pan’s Flight he was mesmerized and all smiles. My excitement for the ride begins before we even take flight as the cast member sprinkles our ship with Pixie Dust. This ride holds a special place in our hearts and we like to start every trip with Peter Pan.

Tracey Haman – The Haunted Mansion – Magic Kingdom

There is a special place in my heart for the Haunted Mansion. My family has been going to Disney World since 1978 and we had 1 big tradition – At park opening we would always head straight back to the Haunted Mansion first thing. We would ride it 3 or 4 times in a row until the line started building up. Every time you ride it you will see new wonderful details you haven’t seen before. I get wonderful nostalgic feelings for my childhood vacations with my family every time I get to experience it again with my son.

Candice Dunn – Mad Tea Party – Magic Kingdom

The Mad Tea Party is inspired by Alice in Wonderland, one of my personal favorites. There is no size or age restriction, so it’s been a beloved ride for my kids at every age. It always brings big smiles and endless giggles as you twirl around in the oversized tea cups. The bright colors, memorable music, and whimsy of the ride make you feel like you stepped into Wonderland. Bonus, you can often find Alice and The Mad Hatter hanging out nearby!

Nicole Oliverio – Splash Mountain – Magic Kingdom

There’s nothing that puts me in a more Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah mood than taking the plunge on Splash Mountain!! This ride has had my heart since my first drop more than 20 years ago. I love traveling through the Briar Patch, into the Laughin’ Place, all while singing along and experiencing a few small drops before that big 50-foot fall. It’s also great for larger groups. We have taken some of our best family photos on this ride. I’m always seen screaming for dear life, but the kiddos have come up with several frame-worthy poses!
